Taking Care of the Children
Schneiders & Schneiders:
Experienced Child Support Lawyers
Once the issue of child custody has been resolved, child support is determined according to a standardized formula. As rigid as this may sound, there are exceptions to this formula — important exceptions that need to be considered as part of an overall divorce strategy.
We can help you ensure that the children are taken care of, and protect your rights at the same time.

At the Law Offices of Schneiders & Schneiders, we handle child support concerns for clients on both sides of this important issue. Our lawyers have experience with handling the issues raised by self-employment, with exceptions created by joint physical custody arrangements, and with those created by situations where incomes are large or grossly disproportionate.
Our goal is always to achieve results that provide for the needs of the children and that are fair to our clients at the same time.
Massachusetts' child support formula takes a number of factors into account, including:
- The non-custodial parent's gross annual income
- Existing child support obligations from previous marriages
- The number of children in the family
- The ages of those children
- Any extracurricular activities the children are involved in
- The custodial parent's gross annual income
- Expected daycare costs
- Medical/health care insurance
How long does child support last? The short answer to this question is age 18. However, children in Massachusetts have significant rights to support up until the age of 21 if they are still living with the custodial parent, and until age 23 if they are still a dependent and in college or a post-secondary educational program of some type.
Our family law attorneys also handle matters involving child support enforcement and child support enforcement actions taken by the Massachusetts Division of Revenue.
